World: geopolitical risk index since 1900
Monthly index by Dario Caldara and Matteo Iacoviello that measures geopolitical tension by the share of major newspaper articles about wars, threats of war, nuclear weapons and terrorism. The main index starts in 1985 (1985–2019 average = 100) and splits into threats and acts; the historical index starts in 1900 with fewer newspapers. It measures press attention, mostly in English-language papers, not casualties or economic damage.
