Cases UNESCO verified and publicly condemned as potentially connected to journalistic work. This is a count of people, not a rate; incomplete 2026 is excluded.

Each row is a person and each count is one UNESCO-recorded killing; names are public because UNESCO lists the case, but VerDat does not create cross-dataset person entities. The Observatory records cases the Director-General has condemned after multiple sources indicate a possible connection to journalistic work; it is not a complete measure of all violence against journalists. Judicial status can change, recent cases may say New request, and an absent country-year is not automatically proof that no journalist was killed.
