How we calculated it

We query series life_expectancy_years of dataset wb-wdi-anual (World Bank) for the 14 countries between 2021 and 2024 in VerDat's normalised layer; for each country reporting both years we compute the change between 2021 and 2024 and take the largest rise. We require at least 8 countries with both years and a change of at least 1 year; the rank is by 2024 value among those 14 countries. The chart shows the country's series; the values and the change are re-verified automatically every day.

7 rows match the query; 7 results remain in the summary.

What it means and what it does not

The comparison relies on harmonised World Bank data and may differ from official statistics produced under national methodologies. This shift reflects the change between two specific points in time rather than a long-term trend or its underlying causes. The analysis only covers the 14 countries with reported data for both 2021 and 2024.

Annual values; rates are percentages, GDP, GNI and remittances are US dollars, population is people, life expectancy is years — never sum across indicators.
