How we calculated it

We query series unemployment_rate_pct of dataset cepal-social-anual (CEPALSTAT) for the 14 countries between 2015 and 2024 in VerDat's normalised layer; we compute each year's median across the reporting countries (at least 8) and count the consecutive years, through 2024, in which Nicaragua sits strictly below it. We require at least 5 years. The chart shows the country's series; the values and the streak are re-verified automatically every day.

12 rows match the query; 12 results remain in the summary.

What it means and what it does not

The regional median is computed annually using only reporting countries, meaning it fluctuates with data coverage. This consecutive streak describes a relative position compared to the region rather than establishing causes. Additionally, ECLAC's annual average rate series relies on a harmonised base that may differ from official national figures.

Every indicator is a rate, index or ratio — compare and rank, never sum. Survey years differ by country; missing years are gaps, not zeros.
