How we calculated it
We query series inflation_dec_dec_pct of dataset cepal-economia-anual (CEPALSTAT) for Uruguay from 1976 to 2025 in VerDat's normalised layer and check that no year after 2001 matches or falls below the 2025 value. We require at least 15 years of series and a gap of at least 10 years. The chart reproduces the query; the values are re-verified automatically every day.

What it means and what it does not
The figures come from ECLAC's harmonised basis and may differ from the numbers the country publishes under its national methodology. This low level reflects Uruguay's position relative to its own past but does not explain the causes. Furthermore, future revisions to previous years could shift the date of the record.
